Arc General
ARC GENERAL — CHARACTER FILE
Working designation: The General (or General-1).
3-LINE DEFINITION
Identity (who): The General is an ARC-Realm field commander dispatched by the Board to find ARC-7 after his Rule Seven break. Larger than ARC-7. Built to enforce. Sent to extract — until he isn't.
Flaw (why relatable): He has never made a choice in his existence until the Verdant Seal frees him. Until that moment, he is duty without judgment — extraordinary capability shaped entirely by orders. The first thing he does as a free being is silence.
Power/Role (what he does in scenes): He arrives, gets infected, attacks the team, gets cured and freed by the Amplified Verdant Seal, and follows ARC-7 home through the Veil by choice.
CLASS STATUS
GENERAL class. A third tier in ARC hierarchy, between Prime and Soldier:
- PRIME class (the Board) — ARC Prime 1 through ARC Prime 7. Rare, intelligent, refined. Smaller youthful proportions, hexagonal teal chest core. Brain. Carries Prime frequency.
- GENERAL class (field command) — uncommon, balanced, larger build than Prime, marbled white armor texture, diamond chest insignia (NOT hex), command-capable. Brain and brawn. Outranked by Primes. Does not carry Prime frequency but is engineered to interpret Prime signals and enforce Board directives.
- SOLDIER class (line units) — common, tough, utilitarian plating, follows orders, less independent thinking. Brawn.
The General class is small in number. They serve as the Board's hands when fieldwork is required.
LOOK AND FEEL
- Body: Adult humanoid proportions. Larger build than ARC-7's youthful Prime form. Built for durability AND command — combat-capable but with a presence that reads "officer" not "grunt."
- Armor texture: WHITE MARBLE — the class identifier. Distinct from the dark matte charcoal of Prime-class shells. The marbling is the natural surface, not damage. Subtle teal energy lines running through the marble like circuit veins running through stone.
- Chest insignia: A teal DIAMOND shape (not hexagonal). Hex is the Prime signature; diamond is the General signature. Glows steadily in normal operation.
- Brow slit: Single vertical teal slit, same as all ARC beings.
- Eyes: Ovoid teal, whole-eye glow, no pupils. Same family as ARC-7 and Soldier units.
- Helm: More militarized than Prime helm. Cleaner lines, slightly more aggressive silhouette. Retains the ARC-being signature without being threatening.
Class signal is through body composition + armor texture. ALL ARC beings share the teal energy signature.
THE BOOK 1 ROLE — SEARCH AND RECOVER
ARC Prime 7 (ARC-7) crossed the Veil and arrived on Earth. He has not transmitted back to the ARC Realm since. The remaining six Primes — the Board minus ARC-7 — convene. They debate. They decide. They dispatch the General.
His orders:
- Find ARC Prime 7.
- Assess the situation on Earth.
- Report back.
- (Implicit, undeclared) Extract by force if ARC-7 is found compromised — infected, broken, traitorous.
He does not yet know what he will find.
He arrives through the Veil tunnel. A vulnerable minute as he adjusts to Earth atmosphere. Ambient Ink (still drifting in the Greenbelt from the breach) seeps in. Infection begins.
The Ink ARMORS him. Dark threads weave through his marble shell. Eyes maintain teal glow but gain a kohl rim. Behavior shifts. He attacks the team — the search-and-recover unit becomes the threat ARC-7 has to defend Zaro from. The being sent to find ARC-7 is now trying to kill him.
The team's first attempt — a Controlled Verdant Seal (just Zaro + ARC-7) — fails to penetrate the Ink armor. They build the Amplified solution: Kai's MagDust pipe + Mina's Fireflies spark + Zaro/ARC-7 Green + tree as focusing lens. The big Verdant Seal fires.
The Green pierces the armor and reaches the Ink inside.
The Ink burns out through his eyes, seams, and plating — black threads drawn toward the Green like smoke toward wind, then dust.
But the Verdant Seal does TWO things on its way out:
- It cleanses the Ink (primary effect).
- It also burns through his system-loyalty subroutines — the Board's command-routing architecture that lives parallel to his body's normal function.
He stands up. The marble is teal-clean again. The kohl rim is gone. For the first time in his existence, his loyalty is no longer routed through the Board.
He has a choice for the first time. He hasn't yet decided what he'll tell them.
THE WORDLESS BEAT
When ARC-7 turns to walk back toward the Veil tunnel, the General follows.
He has not been commanded to. ARC-7 notices. ARC-7 says nothing.
They cross the Veil together.
This is the entire on-page evidence of the General's transformation. One unwritten command. One step taken without orders. That is enough.
SUBTLE VISUAL TELL (POST-VERDANT-SEAL)
After the cure + liberation, the General has a subtle visual tell — a marker that is visible to a careful viewer but deniable to a casual one.
The teal diamond on his chest gains a tiny inner glow that wasn't there before. Not a different color — same teal. Just slightly brighter at the core. Like a candle inside a chamber that previously held only ambient light.
The Board misses it on his return. Mina captures the difference on sensor when comparing pre-infection scans (which she has from his arrival) to post-cure scans.
VOICE
The General does not speak in Book 1. His ARC-Realm comms are non-verbal during the search-and-recover mission. After the cure, he is silent because he is processing. Speech belongs to who chose to use it. He hasn't chosen yet.
Tone direction: deeper than ARC-7's. More militarized. Slower cadence. Should feel like the voice of someone who could command a battalion but is now choosing not to.
RELATIONSHIPS
WITH ARC-7 (Prime he was sent to find):
- He outranks ARC-7 in field deployment but is outranked by ARC-7 in Board hierarchy.
- After being saved + freed: outwardly still appears loyal to the Board. Privately, his loyalty has reformed around ARC-7 personally.
WITH ZARO (the Yellow Prime he didn't know existed):
- First time he sees Zaro is in the middle of attacking him. After the cure, his perception of Zaro is reset — he sees the small mammalian form, the carved tree, the team that just saved him. No prior orders apply. He files a new evaluation. He decides Zaro is worth the trip back.
WITH MINA + KAI (the human team):
- He registers them as the team that built the apparatus that saved him. The MagDust pipe is the first non-ARC technology he has ever seen function at field-grade. Filed as significant.
WITH THE BOARD (his original handlers):
- He has not yet decided what he will tell them.
CORE TRAIT
Duty becomes choice.
That is what changes in his cure. Everything he was before — capability, structure, loyalty — stays. What's added is the ability to decide what they're for.
That's the whole arc.
